Kiss Csaba) Date: Wed Oct 1 13:37:24 2008 Subject: [EMLA TAI-Development] Minutes and Strategies Message-ID: <48E360EE.5020505@emla.hu> Dear TAI and Development Project Participants, Please, visit http://emla.hu/englishsite/index.shtml?x=1534 where you can see the first tangible results of our project: the minutes of your respective national MOFA meetings and the national strategies. Thank you all for your high quality work! As you see, the perception of the task was quite different as regards participants at the meetings and the strategies. I do not think this is a bad thing, however, we might want to try to harmonize the strategies after the Sligo meeting, in light of the aggregate position paper and strategy. I cc here two persons: Joan Marc Simon in Brussels who will be our lobbyist at the EU institutions Daniel Barragan in WRI whom I kindly ask to include the link or page or content somehow under the main TAI website Thank you again, and we see each other soon in Sligo. Until then, please prepare for your brief presentations - details on the Dev Day will follow soon. Our event is on the 29th, and you all will be arriving to Sligo on the 28th. The location of our meeting will be defined by the Irish organizers of the event (Magnus is cc-d here). The agenda is attached. The day will be structured as follows: I will start with a brief intro to the project. Objective, process, expectations, cooperation, output so far. Arjuna, Arthur, Elias, Le Van and Somrudee would summarize the findings of their respective TAI national assessments in 15 minutes / each presentation which is impossible, I know, but we have no more time. *Please, prepare a few power point slides for your presentation, e.g. according to the main groups of findings, i.e. A2I, PP, A2J and CB!* Then after a break, the European partners will tell - again in 15 minutes each - what they did and accomplished during the project implementaiton. *Audrone, Erika, Kordian, Piret, also please, prepare a few slides on the main points, e.g.* a) summary of the GS findings most relevant for you b) process of the project c) meeting at the MOFA d) national strategy Then somebody will sum up the relevant EU policy in this matter. After the lunch break, I expect only discussion and no presentations. I will prepare with topics such as conditionality, aid effectiveness, etc. but if you feel like raising ideas, please do so as you wish. I am not afraid of inactivity of our audience... Don't forget, that we are supposed to prepare the following outputs: - a position paper - an aggregate strategy - human stories All these will feed into an info note on the conference and into our lobbying efforst at the EU. I again would be the one to sum up the day at the closing of the meeting. Thank you and more info on logistics will come soon. Those who have not arranged for your flight tickets, please, LET US KNOW ASAP so that we can pay the tickets by bank transfer. Thursday and Friday are bank holidays here in Hungary so the info MUST reach us by Wednesday noon the latest!!! 2. Also keep in mind that any of your travel related costs (taxi, train) can be reimbursed by me in cash in Sligo (or later by bank transfer) only if you have an invoice on EMLA's name. This does NOT have to be a sophisticated something (unlike the flight invoices), just ask for a receipt saying EMLA or EMLA Budapest - from the taxi driver or the train ticket officer. But we need it!!! 3. Those of you (it affects only Arjuna, Elias, Arthur, Somrudee and Le Van) who have not yet sent me the invoice for the presentation fee, please do so asap! Thank you for you attention. I will then circulate the draft after Sligo and we can finalize a version acceptable for each of us. As regards the human stories, if you have some time on the plane, please, think about a case that nicely represents the flaws of international development decision-making as compared to the status of access rights in your respective country. E.g. an environmentally harmful activity that is in the centre of public refusal but still receives funding from outside the country. Best regards, Csaba > Dear Csaba, > > Thanks for the message. Message-ID: Dear Partners, We are taking further actions in order to advocacy for the access rights here in Europe and to promote the results of the TAI-Development project. Few days after we finish our meeting in Sligo, in Poland an interesting seminar is taking place where IGO will have a chance to talk about the project, cooperation with Tanzanian partners, recommendations towards the Development Policies etc. The project is called Fostering Global Responsibility, funded by the EuropAid and it is run by the CASE Foundation - Centre for Social and Economic Research. The participants of the seminar will include representatives of the NGO platforms in the different East European countries. Although, you might have already addressed them in your activities, in lobbying it is never too much to talk about the objectives and recommendations. Therefore my offer is that during the presentation I can also distribute your materials in your national languages, materials in English etc. That could include our position on the European Development policy. I think that seminar is another interesting way of putting our recommendations on the agenda and presenting the know-how we already have. Therefore, it could also be useful to present the different GS reports from the all 5 countries - at least to give them the impression of the content during their seminar. Since i will only have 3 days back in Warsaw, I will be able to present and distribute only the things I will get from you during our meeting in Sligo. Therefore, If you consider it relevant please bring a separate copy(ies) for me. Anyway IGO is quite eager to learn more about you activities, especially about the activities of the GS partners. Therefore, If you have spare copies of your publications on the access rights, local development, debates on the PRSP etc. please keep in mind we would love to collect them and use in any of our trainings and presentations. Greetings from Warsaw!! And see you in Sligo!! Kordian -- Kordian Kochanowicz Institute of Global Responsibility www.igo.org.pl
